Holiday Programming

The Holiday Progamming Committee aims to provide fun and meaningful family events around the following holidays:  Chanukah, Tu B'Shvat, Yom Hazikaron/Yom Ha'Atzmaut & Lag B'Omer.  These festivities are designed to give congregants of all ages a cohesive, uplifting and educational flavor at minimum to no cost to them.  Sponsorships are encouraged and Volunteers are always welcome.  Please call Lily Rosenblatt 954-322-7000

House

It is our aim to maintain the building and grounds in a style befitting this shul.  We appreciate any input from our members and guest on items needing attention.  In the coming year we hope to complete improvements to our infrastructure such as a new roof over the lobby and women’s’ section, as well as building a sound buffering vestibule outside the bet midrash.

Prizes will be multiple trips to Israel for multiple people.  Drawing is planned to coencide with a Yom Haatzmaut celebration.  More details will be coming in January.  For more information, please contact Stephen Kurtz.

Ritual Committee

The ritual committee is generally made up of the Rabbi, Assistant Rabbi, President and Gabbaim from all minyanim (prayer services). The committee chairman is the Gabbai Rishon of the Shabbos 9:00 a.m. minyan in the main sanctuary. The committee meets before the Yomim Noraim (High Holidays) and additional meetings are scheduled when deemed neccessary. There is constant dialogue between the committee members on a continuous basis.

This committee is charged with seeing to it that all minyanim run smoothly according to halachah and the shul's traditions. This includes, however is not limited to, giving out all honors, aliyahs, Torah laining and appointing the designated chazanim.
If any YIH member has a request or requirement, such needing an aliyah for a yartzeit, please let the gabbai of the intended minyan know as early as is practical under the circumstances. Any YIH member who would like to join this committee should speak with any current committee member.

Website

The Website Committe is, well, just that! We established and maintain the shul web site ensuring its accuracy and timeliness alongside our able shul office. We are always open to suggestions.

Young Couples and Families

This committee serves two functions First, it serves as a clearinghouse for young members to find out about the services and programs offered by the synagogue, as well as ways in which they can volunteer and take leadership roles Second, the committee plans and promotes social events for couples and/or families with the goal of people meeting each other, thereby increasing the sense of friendship and community for which Young Israel of Hollywood is famous

Youth Committee

The Youth committee works with the youth director to coordinate all activities in the shul dealing with children and teenagers including but not limited to  Youth Minyan, Teen minyan, Junior congregations,  Shabbat morning and afternoon programming, Holiday programming, Youth learning programming including veshinantam levanecha, shabbat and weekday shiurim for children and teens, NCSY, Bnei Akiva.

We also try to coordinate our activities in the Hollywood area with the local schools and youth groups. We are very interested in recruiting new members to the committee to help us with old activities and new ideas. We are especially interested in new members with younger children We meet every 6 to 8 weeks usually at the chairman's house and we serve good snacks at the meetings. If anyone is interested in joining the committee they can email me (PJ Goldberg, Chairperson) and I will put them on the youth committee email list
