We are looking to hire an engaging and passionate Youth Director who will be responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive program of Jewish youth activities for the Young Israel of Hollywood Youth. The Youth Director will facilitate a range of activities that enhance Jewish identity, develop leadership, facilitate friendships and build a sense of community.

The Youth Director is, above all, a role model of committed Jewish living. It is expected that the Youth Director will conduct him/herself at all times in a professional manner and one that is consistent with the values of both Young Israel of Hollywood and Orthodox Judaism, demonstrating an example of Jewish ethical and spiritual life.

The Youth Director’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

(1) Developing, presenting, implementing and supervising youth programming and an informal educational curriculum for our youth. These programs will take place on Shabbat, holidays, weekends, and during the week.

(2) Hiring, supervising and evaluating all staff within his/her department, with consultation with the Rabbi, Executive Director, Youth Chair and Youth Committee.

(3) Overseeing the safety of all youth at programs as well as during transportation to and from activities; maintaining current “emergency information” files as well as obtaining appropriate parental waivers enabling participation at individual events.

(4) Developing and preparing a budget for the Youth Department each year in collaboration with the Executive Director and Youth Chair, maintaining and adhering to that budget, and keeping accurate and comprehensive records of budgetary items.

(5) Calendaring youth activities and facility needs with the synagogue to avoid scheduling conflicts.

(6) Creating communications of youth programming and publicize via various communication methods (i.e. email blast, shul website, facebook, etc.)

(7) Coordinating and supervising all appropriate youth related programming for the month of Tishrei as well as seeking out, interviewing and recommending qualified persons to lead programming activities and child care.

(8) Participating in onsite mandatory weekly staff meetings. Participating in regularly scheduled meetings of the Youth Department to review programs, facilitate new ideas and monitor Youth Department Activities.

(9) Working closely with Rabbis, Executive Director, synagogue Board, and Youth Advisors to ensure the programs have the necessary support/resources to achieve its goals.

(11) Build relationships with parents, youth, youth leaders, and youth staff.

While the salary for this job is very respectable, it would not be a problem for the candidate to find additional employment opportunities as long as s/he is able to do their job effectively. The Youth Director position has a fairly flexible schedule but does require the candidate to attend a weekly staff meeting and some other daytime responsibilities. We would do our best to assist our Youth Director in finding additional employment if they so desired.
