Saturday night: Music Trivia Night for adults & teens @ 10:00 PM

Here's what you'll need for Music Trivia Night:

2 devices: One connected to Zoom, one with which you'll be answering the questions via an online form. The device you use for answering should have a full keyboard so you can answer quickly. It will also be helpful if you can print an email you will receive during the event.

The links to join and for the answer form will be posted on Saturday night at yih.org/vsocial

Sunday thru Tuesday: Virtual events for kids presented nationally by the OU

The OU is planning a full schedule of virtual events for kids Sunday through Tuesday. They have asked me for an encore of the Make Your Own Ice Cream event we did earlier this week, so if you missed it or want to do it again, please see the details below.

A full schedule of all of the OU's virtual events will be sent out later today via Whatsapp. If you are not already receiving youth notifications via Whatsapp, please click here to join this group.

Make Your Own Ice Cream: if you missed it or want to do it again, here's your chance

As mentioned above, this is one of the activities the OU will be streaming nationally online. Most people will not be able to participate via Zoom, but we need some faces of kids having fun with this to go out on the stream.

The link to join will be posted Sunday morning at yih.org/vyouth

Here is a list of what you will need. Amounts required are per participant. Parental assistance is recommended.

  • MILK: Heavy cream is best; whole milk mixed with cream is 2nd best; whole milk 3rd; any other milk works too! Total of 1 cup per person.
  • 1 or 2 tablespoons of sugar, depending on chosen flavor.
  • 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla
  • Optional: any syrup that is used to flavor milk (i.e. chocolate, strawberry, etc.)
  • Optional: Chocolate chips, sprinkles, other things you might add to ice cream
  • 3 sandwich size Ziploc bags
  • 2 gallon size Ziploc bags
  • 8 tablespoons kosher salt (other types of salt work too)
  • About 2/3 gallon of ice
  • A large towel

Tuesday, Erev Pesach: Coming to your block:
A Chametz Burning, Ruach Churning, Front Yard Dance Party

Watch Whatsapp for details on this. We're going to have a rocking Erev Pesach!

Pesach Fun 5780: A collaboration for kids from shul youth directors across the USA

I'm very excited about this. A few months ago, I started a Whatsapp group for shul youth directors. We currently have about 50 members who exchange ideas and seek input on programs they are running. Of course, all conversation the past few weeks has centered around Stuff Kids Can Do From Home.

One of our members, Rabbi Aaron Levitt from Kemp Mill Synagogue in Silver Spring, MD, proposed that we collaborate on something kids can do during the upcoming 3-day Yom Tov. The result was a 45-page booklet of Pesach-themed activities.  (Our YIH contribution to the booklet was the home game version of this week's awesome MATZO bingo game.)

You can download Pesach Fun 5780 at yih.org/vyouth. I will also list many other downloadable activities for Shabbat and Yom Tov on that page.
